- Main Function : Using Windows Explorer, create a folder on your computer's hard drive called "SynTP". Although the name of the folder is not of critical importance, it will make it easier to find later. Throughout the rest of these instructions, this folder will be referred to as "SynTP". No matter what name you choose, ensure that the folder is empty before you download and install the driver.
Select the link in the upper right hand corner of this page which says "Windows95/98 Driver Download". When you are prompted for a download location, select the "SynTP" folder (or the alternate folder you have created). If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer you may be given the opportunity to install the driver without ever saving it to your hard drive. This method of installation is not recommended as it can cause installation problems in some cases.
From Windows, open the "SynTP" folder and double click on the icon for the file you have just downloaded. This will begin the installation process. The install wizard will give you several options throughout the installation. If you are not sure what some of the information means, you are generally best off simply accepting the default information.
When the installation is complete, the wizard will recommend restarting your system. This is necessary for many of the changes to take effect and is highly recommended. When your system has finished rebooting, your new synaptics driver should be properly installed.
